Apply for a Responsible Dog Owner Licence (RDOL)

You should know

Before you start

To be eligible for the Responsible Dog Owner Licence (RDOL) your dog must have a current registration. Dog Registration occurs at the same time every year and is valid from 1 July to 30 June. See Renew your registration.

The RDOL reflects your behaviour as an owner. You do not need to apply for it more than once.

The RDOL does not expire but it can be revoked if the conditions are not met.

The discount will be applied to the next registration year.

The test

  • You'll need to take a written knowledge test of 20 multiple choice questions.
  • The test and licence is free of charge.
  • You need to answer 18 questions correctly to pass the test.
